The Launch of SexiDesign.com

Posted on 04 November 2009 by Melody

SexiDesign.com is my official new site for articles about the influence of sex in marketing and design. Visit the site for tantalizing posts for a whole new perspective on marketing.

SexiDesign.com

The last two weeks of mine have been devoted to the launch of my new site, sexidesign.com. I created this site to inform readers about the significant role that sex plays in marketing and design, regardless of the industry.
Articles will cover topics ranging from sexy art such as the design of sexy toys to underlying subliminal messages in ads that are meant to subconsciously evoke sexual desire. Ultimately, my angle is to understand the formula for how sex = sales.

SexiDesign.com Site Features

Articles
The site will feature articles on business, design, marketing, advertising, tutorials, and inspiration. I’ve always loved exploring the power of body language and plan to include additional articles which show how the industry is using sexy body language to ultimately close the sale.

Mature Content
Obviously as a site with a connection to sex, there will be a cornucopia of mature content available. I haven’t really decided how much I plan to censor, however, sexidesign.com is NOT a pornographic site and will not showcase incredibly sexually explicit images (porno-like).

In fact, I adopt the same philosophy as Playboy, by presenting information in a classy, mature manner, despite the presence of adult language and imagery.

Why Sex?

Spice Things Up:Controversial Style
I visit design and blog sites every day, and I’ve recently realized that there is need for a site with a little bit more kick.
I’m not shy when it comes to speaking upon controversial subjects because I believe that thorough discussion allows for a true understanding about the different perspectives of one topic. The topic of sex is either shunned or rarely highlighted for its impact on marketing.

Sex is Everywhere
Sex has a strong hold on many businesses and the success of those businesses who don’t necessarily have to be associated with the sex industry. Sexy advertisements are no longer rare to be seen and using it for a marketing campaigns is quite normal in any industry.

Open to Any Subject
I’m an artist, and as an artist who creates pieces with nudity I’m quite fine discussing a topic that I know people will accept with a little understanding and open discussion. This site is about sex, but more importantly its about the world of marketing and design, and how new industries have emerged and achieved success by taking risks. Ultimately, the more you understand the underlying and sometimes subconscious reasons behind a sale, the more sales you’ll make.

What Happens to AWalkInMyShoes.com?

AWalkInMyShoes.com is not going anywhere! Now that I’ve finished the design and implimentation of sexidesign.com, I now have enough time to devote to the growth of both sites. AWalkInMyShoes will stay as a more generally based marketing and design site, with upcoming posts to inform you on vital marketing strategies and information.
Also, expect a return to AWalkInMyShoes YouTube Channel, where I am currently developing new tutorials and update videos.

Pirate Treasure Map Inspired Business Cards

Posted on 26 August 2009 by Melody

pirate treasure map business cards
For this week’s trip to LA I decided to make a whole new batch of business cards for myself. I wanted cards that would be totally unique, yet fun and able to demonstrate my talents as a graphics designer.

So I very randomly came up with this idea of making a pirate treasure map inspired business card design.

Front

pirate treasure map business cards
On the front of the card is an illustration of me as a pirate with an eye patch, with two crossed paint brushes and a banner displaying my name and profession.

Back

pirate map business cards
The back of the card displays a treasure map with my contact information spread about the map. I’m not much of a phone person so my number isn’t displayed, but I have included my e-mail, blog address, and twitter name. Both the front and back of the card have a look to them of old worn paper.

Additional Pictures

I can’t wait to give these cards out this weekend, and I love how they totally match my gold business card holder. But it’s funny how making a pirate inspired business card had such an effect on me that I started speaking in pirate tongue lol..arggghhh me matey!
I had a lot of fun creating these cards, and I’m considering doing a tutorial on exactly how I made them in Photoshop. Let me know if a tutorial is something you guys would be interested in!

Official T-shirt Design Line Launches Today!

Posted on 15 July 2009 by Melody

tshirt feature ad image

“Cuerpo is a celebration of the human form…An exploration of the idea of inhabiting the very curves which make up the body.” -Melody Nieves

Today is the official launch of my new t-shirt design line, “Cuerpo.” A series of 5 designs uniquely merging the human body with a world within itself.

Inspiration Behind Cuerpo

Many years ago as a young artist I began drawing light sketches of women’s bodies inhabited with cities and native civilizations. I attempted few acrylic paintings with these ideas, but recently decided to go back to my long lost list of painting concepts gathering dust within the corners of my brain.

“Cuerpo” is simply the spanish translation for the English word “Body.” And I can only connect the name’s language as perhaps a means to further embrace my puerto rican culture, while enforcing my perspective of also embracing the differing body shapes, colors, and sizes produced by cultures all over the world.

The Official Designs

1. Clouded Vision
eye sail boat ocean
(Description)- Clouded Vision is a recreation of an acrylic painting I made some years ago, and is the t-shirt design originally previewed here on awalkinmyshoes.com. It features a sailboat sailing in the sea of an eye with rays of sunshine piercing through a gathering of clouds.

2. Fishing For Memories

fishing
- This digital painting is an image of a father and son sitting side by side atop a slightly cupped hand as they fish for fish in the shape of the word “memory.” I really love the concept of this piece which is kept mostly black and white with areas of color showing through.

3. In The Palm of My Hand
hand palm surf wave
- Here is where we really begin to see the black and white take over the rest of the digitally painted designs. This particular piece is of a hand reaching forward, delicately cupping a wave with a surfer while the water freely flows through the spaces in the fingers.

4. Watch My Back
back lion tattoo mural
- Definitely one of my favs, this piece is of a (technically male) human back where a painter is painting an image of the king of the jungle. I love working with Photoshop because I could totally make a separate print of solely the lion if desired…hmm…

5. An Irresistible Climb
abs climb
- If you purchase this t-shirt please forward me a picture of you wearing it because I would love to see the brave/badass soul who wears it! This is, how do you say, my declaration for not only my love of the male physique (in any shape/form) but the muscularity as well. Probably the “sexiest” of all the t-shirts, this piece has two very admiring women climbing up the abdominal musculature.

T-shirts and Prints Available Online Now!

To purchase t-shirts using my digitally painted designs, head over to my zazzle.com/melodynieves. The designs will also be featured as prints, and in the near future I will be expanding upon prints with similar conceptual pieces.

These t-shirt designs are the first of much more conceptual artwork to come, however those later pieces will remain as prints, unless otherwise noted.

Subscribe To Win A Free T-shirt

I should be launching a contest by the end of the week to give away a t-shirt of your choice to one lucky winner. So the only way to stay tuned is to simply subscribe to my RSS feed for updates!

Wii Game Cover Tutorials Here, Almost

Posted on 10 March 2009 by Melody

Well, I lie only a little, because at least the photoshop tutorials for the Wii game cover are here. I gently rub my fingertips along my temples for I have spent the last weekend trying to upload these two videos to my YouTube channel, fingers criss-crossed and overwhelmingly let down at the amount of times the first video failed to upload…

Click to view Part 1and Part 2

But this is not christmas, and I am not scrooge–soo let’s move on.

Of course, these videos tutorials are for my recent youtube contest entry–congrats to whoever the winner may have been, sadly I didn’t place top five (admittedly rolling my eyes at this very second).

This tutorial took all of about…30+ minutes to record so I do apologize if the constant skipping to a finalized step seems annoying. If I had let the videos get any longer then I doubt I would be writing this post right now about the finished uploads.

I, myself wasn’t even able to completely recreate my original Wii cover which you can see here:
http://awalkinmyshoes.com/images/philcover.jpg

This is what my finalized cover looked like from this tutorial:

I am excited to say though, that my recent exploration into a wide array of digital art has led me to take up digital painting–I’m currently working on a piece at this moment and can not wait to show it.

Also, another post is coming soon about how you can get your own custom Wii game cover just like this one…you can tell all your friends, or tease them with your own badass cover..:P

Toodles–Ramon Noodles!

Like the new look? Give me your opinion

Posted on 03 March 2009 by Melody

Yesterday upon much desire and deliberation I released the new layout for www.awalkinmyshoes.com.

Old Layout

Immediately after the launch of awalkinmyshoes.com I knew I needed a different layout. I still believe that my old layout was a nice one, it’s just that it didn’t satisfy the different areas I wanted to accomplish by having my website.
It’s like the times when something is bugging you, and you temporarily can’t do anything about it–so you grunt and moan every single time you have to deal with it…that’s how I felt about my old layout. The minute someone purposely or not stumbles upon this website they should have a sense of the purpose of the website and who I am within the first 10 seconds. If I’ve failed to convey that message..well then I lost ya..

I appreciate those who are still here breathing with me..

If you’re new here, I’ve added a couple of pictures from my old layout below for reference.

New Layout

It’s funny, my old layout and the new one are actually designed by the same designer–so obviously I don’t have any beef about the older one. The designer is Adii, who has created a lot of popular wordpress themes. I swear, if I had more patience for learning php, I’d be out there designing layouts as well. I just absolutely love this layout, the new features add so much more to the site including:
All New Featured Section with Custom Banners

  • YouTube Video Player with Recent Videos from the AWalkInMyShoes Channel
  • Flickr Thumbnails from my account
  • Better Feed Icon Positioning (Subscribe)
  • Previews to Posts
  • Tabbed Form with Tabs for Popular,Comments,
    Featured, and Tag Cloud Sections
  • Custom Shoes Background (everything needs a splash of fun)

So, just picture in your head, from ear to ear the cheesiest smile possible as the glee for my new site’s design radiates absolute…okay so maybe that’s a little much to say, but I’m excited.

More posts, More Frequently, and New Video Tutorials coming your way…
